Munchkins Program
The Munchkins Program is devoted to the education of basic soccer skills for Pre K and Kindergarten aged players. The curriculum consists of age appropriate games and activities that stress the development of proper ball striking, ball control and passing techniques. The development of the basic skills of the game enables the players to develop greater confidence. This will enable the players to get greater enjoyment out of the game. The program has been designed in conjunction with our education partner Soccer Plus. This organization is run by Tony DiCiccio, former coach of the USA Women's National Team.
The program will be administered by our new Assistant Director of Coaching Charley Pepperrell. As we have in the past we will also utilize our older travel team players as supervisors for the younger players. These players have developed the skills enabling them to easily demonstrate the activities we are teaching. In addition the youngsters enjoy working with their older role models. The trainers also benefit from this experience gaining composure, patience and an understanding of the educational process. Their understanding of the learning curve makes it much easier to teach these skills. Parent assistance is also encouraged as well, creating a better supervisor to player ratio and also developing the basic coaching skills.
In addition the players will also participate in 1v1 or 4v4 scrimmages each week focusing on utilizing the skills that were worked on in the education portion of the session. Basic rules of the game such as throw-ins and spacing are stressed in the scrimmage portion of the session.
